In an effort to make this the best year ever, I’ve actually made a resolution list… I listened to the following song while making it.
♫ Sea Wolf – I Made a Resolution
1. Take lunch breaks. I walked to a restaurant from work to meet a friend for lunch the other day, and it took me like 5 minutes! My office is in a basement, so I don’t see the sun all day long if I don’t leave at lunch. I generally leave to do something 2 or 3 days a week, but it kind of wears me down the days I don’t. So, I want to start not only taking lunch breaks, but start walking to lunch, especially if I’m just going to grab something at wholefoods. I’ll walk, avoid traffic and crappy parking, and make good use of my hour break.
2. Read more, write more, draw more. I have a hard time picking books to read because I don’t have an obvious choice, like a lot of people I know who like to read, and who are good at it. If it were up to me I don’t think I’d even have a TV. I’m not going to lie like I don’t watch it… but I’ve been using it to inspire my reading habits lately. I’ll watch documentaries on subjects, and make notes on authors and books and seek them out. It’s working so far, just need to keep it going! Writing = this blog, so far so good. Drawing will be a serious “to-do”, but Justin got me a sweet sketchbook that I’ll just have to start bringing with me!
3. Spend Less, save more, pay off debt. Aside from freezing my only existing credit card into a block of ice, I want to try to automatically allocate 5-10% of my earnings to a savings account. Preferably a joint savings with Justin so we can do what responsible grown-ups do, and start saving for responsible things that grown-ups eventually like to spend money on. I also need to get a hold on my spending. When I first moved to Colorado, I barely spent any money. Now I’m making more, but I’m throwing it around like I can. That’s going to stop…

4. Travel more, on the cheap. I have a ton of camping stuff now, collected since I moved here 2 years ago. We were just talking about maybe taking a trip to Las Vegas, and then realized $400-500 each for a 2 1/2 day getaway isn’t what I would call getting a hold on our spending. Therefore, I want to take advantage of our camping gear, and plan a few camping trips this summer! I feel better when I’m exploring; it doesn’t have to be far distances, but just far enough to be new to us.
5. Compile a cookbook. By 2012, I want to have 20-30 solid recipes that I love, ready to be put into a book of my own! Of course, I’ve gotten most of these recipes from somewhere, but I adapt them and will give credit where credit is due. I would just like to have something to strive towards, to not only inspire me to continue to try new recipes, but to be able to share some yummy and healthy recipes with friends and family.
This is the first time I really came up with a list! This year will be far superior to others for a number of reasons. This is my last New Years as a Lyga! So strange… I’ll be a Longo this time next year!
